Witch’s Cauldron Pattern

Witch Cauldron Amigurumi

It’s that time of the year; Halloween is almost here!

Halloween is not traditionally celebrated here in Greece but that could never stop me from making a little cutie spooky amigurumi decoration.  So grab your hooks, put on your witch hats and enjoy:

MATERIALS

  • 2.5 mm hook (or US C/2)
  • DK yarn in black, neon green and purple (or any other colors of your choice)
  • stuffing
  • a pipe cleaner or wire
  • yarn needle
  • stitch marker

The finished size is approximately 9 cm/3.5 inches tall (without the tentacle) with the suggested hook and yarn.

ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMINOLOGY)

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
R = Round
mr = magic ring
inc = increase (two sc in one stitch)
dec = decrease (sc two stitches together)
FLO = front loops only
FO = fasten off

INSTRUCTIONS

CAULDRON

With black yarn make a mr,
R1           sc 6 into the mr (6)
R2           [inc] 6 times (12)
R3           [sc, inc] 6 times (18)
R4           [sc 2, inc] 6 times (24)
R5           [sc 3, inc] 6 times (30)
R6           [sc 4, inc] 6 times (36)
R7           [sc 5, inc] 6 times (42)
R8           [sc 6, inc] 6 times (48)
R9           [sc 7, inc] 6 times (54)
R10-18    sc around (54) 9 rounds
R19         [sc 7, dec] 6 times (48)
R20         [sc 6, dec] 6 times (42)
R21         sl st in 1st st and ch 1, starting from the same st hdc around in FLO (42)
Join with a sl st to 1st hdc and FO. Weave in ends.

CAULDRON’S LEGS (make 3)

With black yarn make a mr,
R1          sc 6 into the mr (6)
R2          sc around (6)
FO leaving a tail for sewing.

BREW

With neon green yarn make a mr,
R1           sc 6 into the mr (6)
R2           [inc] 6 times (12)
R3           [sc, inc] 6 times (18)
R4           [sc 2, inc] 6 times (24)
R5           [sc 3, inc] 6 times (30)
R6           [sc 4, inc] 6 times (36)
R7           [sc 5, inc] 6 times (42)
FO leaving a long tail for sewing.

POTION BUBBLES

LARGE (make 1 or as many as you like)

With neon green yarn make a mr,
R1           sc 6 into the mr (6)
R2           [inc] 6 times (12)
R3           [sc, inc] 6 times (18)
R4           sc around (18)
R5           [sc, dec] 6 times (12)
FO leaving a tail for sewing. Stuff.

SMALL (make 3 or more)

With neon green yarn make a mr,
R1          sc 6 into the mr (6)
R2          sc around (6)
FO leaving a tail for sewing.

TENTACLE

With purple yarn make a mr,
R1           sc 4 into the mr (4)
R2           sc around (4)
R3           sc 3, inc (5)
R4           sc around (5)
R5           sc 4, inc (6)
R6           sc around (6)
R7           [sc 2, inc] 2 times (8)
R8-9        sc around (8) 2 rounds
R10         [sc 3, inc] 2 times (10)
R11-12   sc around (10) 2 rounds
R13        [sc 4, inc] 2 times (12)
R14-15   sc around (12) 2 rounds
FO leaving a long tail for sewing.

ASSEMBLY

  1. Sew the cauldron’s legs onto the cauldron onto Rounds 6 and 7.
  2. Stuff the cauldron firmly.
  3. Insert the pipe cleaner or wire into the tentacle.
  4. Sew the bubbles and tentacle onto the brew.
  5. Sew the potion onto the cauldron onto the remaining back loops of Round 20.
